National Mass for Altar Servers 2023 - Cardiff Cathedral

Father Anthony took a group of Altar Servers to the The Guild of St Stephen  annual National Mass at Cardiff Cathedral on Saturday 14th October.

It was particularly special for us as the principal celebrant was Rev. Mark O'Toole who led a beautiful service. Our youngsters did us proud.

Pat Shonfield Awarded The Gold Medal of Merit

Following our wonderful Paschal Triduum, Father Anthony was delighted to award The Gold Medal of Merit of the Archconfraternity of St Stephen, (which is the Church Guild of Altar servers) to Pat Shonfield, who has had a very long association with St Joseph's Church in Weymouth. Having being brought up in the parish, becoming an Altar Server at the age of 8 years old and faithfully serving at the altar for over 65 years!

This Medal of Merit is a well deserved recognition of that service, which he received humbly on the night.  What an amazing example to us all and especially the youngsters who now assist him and Father Anthony at Mass by serving at the altar.

We congratulate Pat on this special occasion and thank him for all these years of faithful service and wish him many more to come.

Altar Server at Chrism Mass, Plymouth Cathedral

One of our young Altar Servers was asked to participate in the Chrism Mass this year, with the great honour of "looking after" the Bishop's Mitre.

Not at all overwhelmed by the occasion, he said, "it was fun"!
